Ingredients
- 2 drumsticks, cut into 3-inch pieces
- 1 cup toor dal, cooked
- 2 tbsp Manakkadu Sambar Powder
- 1 lemon-sized tamarind, extracted
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 tomato, chopped
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- 1 sprig curry leaves
- 2 tbsp oil
- Salt, turmeric and a pinch of asafoetida
Method
Step 1: Cook drumsticks
Boil drumsticks in tamarind water with turmeric and salt until tender.
Step 2: Add powder
Add Manakkadu Sambar Powder and tomato; simmer 5 minutes.
Step 3: Add dal
Stir in cooked toor dal and adjust consistency; simmer 8 minutes.
Step 4: Temper
Heat oil, splutter mustard, add onion, curry leaves and asafoetida; saute and pour over.
Step 5: Rest
Cover and let the flavours settle for a few minutes.
